Where does the Festival take place?
Outspoken will take place in downtown Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Pittsfield is approximately a 55 minute drive from Albany, NY to the west and Springfield, MA to the east.
When is the Festival?
The Festival will take place May 5 & 6, 2018.
I'm/we're traveling from far away, is it possible to participate for just one day?
While we think it will be worth the time to attend both days, we understand that making a long drive for both days may be prohibitive, so yes, it is ok - although less than ideal - to attend Saturday only.
What ages can participate in the Festival?
Poets ages 12 - 22 may participate. If you fall just outside of that range and are interested in participating contact us to discuss.
Is there a registration fee? Does it cost anything to participate?
Participation is free. Attending the performance events (open to public) is also free.
Do I have to have a team to participate?
No, poets without a team are encouraged to register individually.
How do I register as an individual poet?
What does an individual poet need to prepare?
An individual poet should prepare at least two poems. All poets should also bring a notebook and writing instruments for the workshops.
What if I am too shy or not quite ready to slam?
There will be "open mic" opportunities for poets who don't want to compete in the slam.
What is a Poetry Slam Team?
A poetry slam team consists of 4 -8 poets who have prepared a group piece as well as individual pieces.
How can I get on a team?
1) If you are part of a club, class or workshop, form a own team (we can help sort out the details); 2) Find 3 or more friends and form a team; or 3) join our weekly workshop group and we'll try to get you on a team.
How do I register a team?
Register online. Teams are required to have an adult mentor/coach contact.
What does a team need to prepare?
Teams can have 3-8 poets who have prepared a poem to perform. Teams should also come have prepared a multi-voice group piece (3-4 poets).
